Campaign Issues: The Baseball Stadium?
The stadium is a done deal, too late to make any changes now. I do not think anyone could have predicted COVID destroying the baseball season in 2020 and hindering downtown revival. However, there are still parking issues to be solved and we need to solve them without the city guaranteeing more loans. We also need parking for events at festival park and the Dogwood Festival. I am in favor of satellite parking, maybe at the mall with a clean, reliable, frequent and dependable shuttle.
The Civil War Museum
I am not opposed to people raising money and building a Museum. However, this will cost the city a lot of money and with the current environment anything that is presented will be offensive to one group or another. I am not for any city funds being spent on this. The Airborne Museum is a nice place to show visitors, But it does not bring huge amounts of tourism money to the city. The city has bailed them out before (buying their parking lot) I think a Civil war center will need bailing out from the city every few years also.
The Market House
The Market House
This has been in Fayetteville for a long time . Money spent to try to move it would much better used on youth recreation programs. Destroying a building will not change history.
My section of the city does not have any good bus route, young people and others without cars find it difficult to get to work. While most of us don’t mind giving a ride occasionally to help someone who wants to work, It is not a reliable solution.I ask FAST to relook their routes and try to get something on Bingham or Hope Mills Rd. A better public transit system could help the city deal with downtown parking problems.
Parks and Recreation
This side of town is lacking in parks and rec facilities when compared to the other districts. I will challenge Parks and Recreation to do more over here.
