New people in the race
Last week when I heard that Chris Davis the incumbent for District 6 would not be seeking reelection I was a little happy. Primarily because I thought I would not have run in a Primary and I could save my resources for the Election in July. However two other candidates registered this week and it looks like this could be a highly competitive Primary. I looked up both of their voting records and they both have long records of voting in Municipal elections and Primary and General elections. They both seem to be solid members of the community ready to get involved. I am looking forward to sharing my vision of Fayetteville and I believe we will have a well informed debate for the next 7 weeks or so. The bad part for me is that if I finish in the top 2 in the primary i will have to do 2 more months of campaigning. It is good that I will have opportunities to interact with more of my community, but this will probably cost more than anticipated if I need to get a second round of campaign supplies.

Juneteenth
Juneteenth was a tradition in many communities. It was originally celebrated by African American to celebrate the end of Slavery in the USA. Many of the celebrations were organized by Republican organizations. In the 50’s and 60’s when some political alliances began to change many people stopped celebrating because they did not want to associate with Lincoln and the Republicans. Recently in DC people have to bring back the holiday but they have tried to obscure its origins. We need to celebrate Lincoln and the brave people who helped end slavery. I will be out in full force celebrating Lincoln and my great past Relative Oliver Otis Howard (founder of Howard University as well as a General who led Sherman’s march to the Sea, and headed Reconstruction after the war). I think we can all embrace freedom in the USA.

Election Dates
I wish I could tell you that I know everything about the upcoming election dates. However it is still with the courts and the General Assembly. May 17th is the currently planned date, but in this election in this state things are somewhat fluid. Basically I don’t know for sure when it will happen. I am pretty certain that the Fayetteville City Council Districts will remain as they are currently drawn

Walker incident.
I have been following the Jason Walker Shooting. Right now it is being investigated. I agree with the City Councils decision to ask the state to investigate it. There are too many emotions and an issue involving local law enforcement probably should be handled by an outside agency. While I disagree with the current District 6 Council Member Chris Davis on many issues I think he has acted the right way on this issue. He has not made lots of statements just to get his name in paper and is waiting for the investigation to show us the facts of the matter. I will congratulate my opponent when he does the right thing. My concern is what is best for the city, not who gets credit for it.
